The 4 Best Craft Beer Bars in Columbus, OH
Columbus is booming, along with its beer scene.
Bored of basic brew? Columbus has a solution.
Columbus is finally shedding its inferiority complex. Recently named the fourteenth largest U.S. city, Ohio’s capital comes in just under San Francisco. And this burgeoning population wants something to drink. Columbus’ bar scene is also booming and catering to all styles and tastes. Here are five to get you started.
St. James Tavern
1057 N. 4th Street | (614) 294-0064
“Near High Street but away from the jackasses,” this well-loved dive bar used to be off the beaten path. Now there’s a huge pull to its 4th street location, with other bars such as Hoof Hearted, Little Rock, and Seventh Son nearby. But St. James has kept it old school and real: great microbrews at $4 a pint, pool tables and a jukebox, and no trendy antics or marketing gimmicks.
Short North Tavern
674 N. High Street | (614) 221-2432
This neighborhood favorite is the perfect “go have a drink and hang out” bar, complete with darts, drafts, art, and surprisingly good food. Maybe you skipped dinner and are already feeling the ABV of that last beer? Locals swear by the chicken tenders.
Strongwater Food & Spirits
401 W. Town Street | (614) 928-3170
One of the most unique bar spaces Columbus has to offer, Strongwater is located in a former industrial warehouse. Drink local and imported beers in the former lobby or in one of the cozy semi-private office spaces.
Oddfellows
1038 N. High Street | (614) 923-9631
Let me enumerate: Happy Hour from 4-7 p.m. for half-off draft beers; trivia two nights a week; “Classy as F*ck Brunch” Saturday and Sunday; Hai Poke and Woodhouse Vegan kitchen pop-ups; an ever evolving art installation happening on the patio. This is the place to be.
